Jesus embodied this spirit of liberation, as seen in Luke 4:18-19, quoting Isaiah. The first papal Jubilee was declared in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII. Initially held every 100 years, the interval was later shortened to 25 years, with additional extraordinary Jubilees, such as the 2015 Year of Mercy. Over time, traditions like pilgrimages, the Holy Door, and plenary indulgences have been added.
